Life long National Literary Award winner Sayagyi U Lay Myaing

“I threw myself into the literary world and started writing career and wrote poems, novels and articles beginning 1957-58. Later, I created only literature that was useful to various kinds of classes in one way or another” said U Lay Myaing (Lay Myaing) in an interview with NLM.

Writer Sayagyi U Lay Myaing won the life-long national literary award. He began his career from volume 1 of Shumawa and Payphuhlwa magazines. He also served as a proofreader in Myawaday magazine and was retired from the deputy chief editor. After his retirement, he concentrated on writing religious literature and he became the editor-in-charge of Dhammayanthi and Dhamma Yadana Magazines.

“I would like to give some advice to the readers. They must have aims when reading. Literature widens knowledge and it also gives us the sense to differentiate what is good and what is bad, right and wrong as well as cause and effect. One should not expect to gain bene-fit from every literature; he should read the one that is useful and beneficial to mankind”, he suggested.

“ With this intention I create the magazines.” He told NLM that he was glad to win the life-long national literary award presented by the government. He welcomed the point that the government takes care of the doyen literati and it is a praiseworthy endeavours. He said he felt that he was responsible for serving the interest of the country with his literary work.
