Dr Tin Hlaing: winner of National Literacy Award in Translation (Knowledge) Genre

Dr Tin Hlaing who won 2004 National Literacy Award in Translation (knowledge) genre was born in 1941 at Thakhutpinleywa Village, Ayadaw Township, Monywa District, Sagaing Division. He got a BSc degree in 1963 and later got an MSc degree. He obtained a PhD degree majoring in nuclear physics in 1976. He served at the universities at various capacities for over 30 years. He is currently serving as an executive of Myanmar Academy of Technology, as an adviser of the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University and a part-time professor of the Sitagu International Buddhist Academy. He wrote research papers, articles and two university textbooks in English version. He is now writing other informative and educational books and biographies. He won the National Literacy Award with his book titled Oonauk-mya-ko Mihnyichin. His pen name is Bo Hlaing. The original book was written by Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam.

The book was aimed at handing down the fine traditions in social, religious, economic and technological fields to the Indian youths and enabling them to be capable of facing the challenges of future. It was also aimed at broadening the horizons of Indian youths who are to shape the future of India.Although his work was aimed at young people, it was found to be the most informative and educational for the adults.
