Dr Chit: winner of National Literary Award in General Knowledge (Applied Science) Genre

Dr Chit who won 2004 National Literary Award in general knowledge (applied science) genre was born of U Myat Tun-Daw Hnin Chei in Mahlaing Township, Mandalay Division on 2 May 1935. He won a BSc (Agri) degree and a PhD (Agri) degree. He studied agricultural science at home and abroad for over 20 years. He served at the governmental bodies at various capacities for about 30 years before taking retirement. He is currently writing a book on cotton cultivation in the interest of the State and the people.

Dr Chit won the National Literary Award with his book titled Orange and Perennial Crops Cultivation. In an interview with the New Light of Myanmar, he disclosed that nowadays the government has been able to take steps for the development of agricultural sector and engage in cultivation of poppy-substitute crops in border areas as peace and tranquillity prevailed the length and breadth of the nation. At such a time, he was eager to serve the interest of the State through intellectual strength since he was growing old. Based on his long study on agriculture, he established a perennial crop plantation in PyinOoLwin. It is not only for his own interest but for conducting research on perennial crops. The aim of his plantation is to disseminate knowledge on perennial crops and cultivation methods.
